-What is a 'feel better' gel?

Feel Better is a topical anaesthetic, a numbing gel formulated for permanent make up procedures to minimise your clients’ discomfort, helping them stay relaxed and allowing you to focus on the creative part of your job. It’s a real game changer for anyone performing PMU, cosmetic tattooing or any other invasive skin treatments, where pain management is just as important as the results of the treatment. It’s rapid acting gel formula significantly reduces pain associated with PMU and tattoo procedures, as well as reduces any swelling and/or bleeding.

-How is it used?

Feel Better gel is designed to be used during any PMU or skin needling procedure, once the skin barrier has been compromised. It is most often used after the first pass, but can be used at any time of the procedure, whenever you feel that your client is in need of “feeling better”. Simply apply a thin layer of product to the affected area and let it do its job.

-How long does it take to get to work?

When applied onto “open” skin the gel absorption takes about 1- 2 minutes, providing almost instantaneous pain relief. Keeping it on for longer will not improve the gel’s efficacy, so there’s no need for long waiting time, it allows you to work smoothly without any interruptions or delays.

-Is it 100% effective and all clients will be completely numb?

As great as it is we cannot guarantee that the gel will have the same numbing effect on everyone. The numbness varies from person to person and depends largely on the metabolic rate of your body. It is important to note that small percentage of people have a genetic mutation causing a local anaesthesia resistance and that means that no topical numbing in any form will give them pain relief. Such clients need to seek alternative pain management solutions.

-What are the benefits of using feel better during PMU & Microblading procedures?

Clients undergoing any invasive cosmetic procedure usually worry about two aspects of the treatment, the pain experience during the procedure and the overall final result. Feel Better gel allows you to minimise your clients pain during the procedure, making them feel at ease, reducing at least one or their worries and allowing them and yourself for a more enjoyable session.

-Which areas of the face you normally use it on?

The gel can be used anywhere on the face of body. It provides the ultimate numbing experience and can be safely used even around the sensitive eye area. It is suitable for use during eyebrows, eyeliner and  lip blush procedures, as well as body tattooing, scar reduction or any other potentially painful procedures involving the use of needles.

-What are the ingredients and how does each work?

Feel Better gel is formulated with Lidocaine, Tetracaine and Epinephrine. The first two ingredients provide the pain relief action that is achieved by temporary blocking of pain receptors. Epinephrine is a vasoconstrictor that helps to narrow the blood vessels in order to reduce any bleeding, which in turn helps with better pigment absorption during PMU procedures.

-Where is it produced?

It is manufactured in the USA

-Why do we like it at Everlasting Brows?

Feel Better is a cult product and one of the best selling items. Due to its rapid absorption it provides very effective pain relief and reduces the treatment time. This hero gel keeps your clients happy and they don’t hesitate to book in for their follow up appointments or new treatments.

-How many procedures can you get out of the 29ml bottle?

In general 1ml is more than enough for lips or brows and even less product is required for eyeliner procedures, so one bottle should last you for 30+ procedures.

-Will it affect the end healed results of artists work?

Feel Better gel works in a fast and efficient way without compromising the skin’s texture, or affecting your ability to implant pigment into the skin. Because it reduces bleeding and swelling it also promotes faster healing which is great, as more rapid skin recovery leads to better results.

-Does more lidocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine necessarily mean more pain relief? Or does more numbing % mean better pain relief?

We often tend to think that the more of the active ingredient the better, however it is not always the case. Perhaps you can never have too many handbags, but if you have to many cocktails on a night out you will feel the consequences. Similarly with the numbing agents, there’s an optimum level for the best overall results. Some products might have a higher concentration of lidocaine, but if it's poorly formulated, very little of the active ingredient will be able to penetrate the skin and get to work. On top of that a product with high content of active ingredients is more likely to cause an adverse reaction including a skin rash or breathing problems. What’s more important but often overlooked when it comes to topical anaesthetics is the absorption rate. Not only the product should be formulated in a way to allow for an effective skin absorption but you should also do a proper skin prep in order to optimise it even more. Studies show that higher concentrations of active ingredients in a product prolong the healing process and leas to more issues.

-What to look out for when choosing numbing products for PMU & Microblading services?

You should always look for products from reputable sources, read the reviews but don’t trust them blindly. Test the product on few people to determine its effectiveness and find the best way to work with it. Not every product works in the same way, application methods and onset time may vary. It is important to read the product label and understand what each of the ingredients does. Make note of the best before date, as the product can easily become unstable or less effective past the expiry date. It is important to note that too many “extra” ingredients can affect the way the numbing product works and also often lead to more allergic reactions.
